MIKE MAJKOWSKI (born 1983), is an Australian/Polish double bassist / composer living in Berlin. Active across a wide spectrum of contemporary music, Majkowski has been working the fields of improvised, composed and exploratory music as a performer, composer, collaborator and organiser since 2001.
Mike performs as a soloist, as well as with a number of collaborative projects which include: Blip (with Jim Denley), Roil (with Chris Abrahams & James Waples), Lotto (with Lukasz Rychlicki & Pawel Szpura), Hailu Mergia Trio (with Hailu Mergia & Tony Buck), Konzert Minimal (Berlin-based collective performing composed music), and duo with Robert Piotrowicz.
Majkowski holds an active interest in developing, extending and refining technical possibilities for the double bass. He is currently exploring the spectral qualities of double bass resonance and long-form composition. His music also explores the relationship between physicality and sonority, with the aim of creating a sense of stillness. Majkowski has made four solo double bass albums to date.
