The video is a documentation of a short performative action in Zakrzówek in Krakow - a quarry in which water surprisingly flooded the basin. The work refers to the tradition of land art - Dennis Oppenheim, Richard Long, Robert Smithson - but also has an intimate character.
Piotr Urbaniec, born on December 3, 1992 in Cracow. He lives and works in Amsterdam as part of the De Ateliers program. He graduated from the art school in Zakopane, then defended his Bachelor's Degree thesis in the Transmedia Workshop (at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow) and Master's Degree thesis in the Studio of Spatial Activities (the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, supervisor: Mirosław Bałka). In 2018 he was a participant in the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture (USA), and earlier in 2016 he had a residency organized by Residency Unlimited in New York as part of the first prize in the "Hestia Artistic Journey" competition. He won the First Prize at the In Out Festival 2016 (CCA Łaźnia Gdańsk). In 2014, he won the Grand Prix and a special distinction in the Young Wolves competition (Academy of Arts in Szczecin). Winner of the Creative Scholarship of the City of Cracow. He has taken part in numerous group exhibitions, film screenings or (usually short) performative actions. In 2016, he had his first individual exhibition at the CCA Ujazdowski Castle as part of the "Project Room" project. He has taken part in group exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, WRO Art Center, BWA Katowice, and the Wola Museum in Warsaw. He has presented his works on three continents, most recently in China at the Yixian International Photography Festival, at Tempo Lento as part of the Akrai Residency in Sicily, Moscow International Biennale for Young Art in Russia, Roman Susan in Chicago, Rencontres Internationales in Paris and Berlin.
