The authors of the project (as for the beginning of the exhibition)
Curator Natalia Revko describes the exhibition:
”With all that war brings upon us, it also intervenes in our communications and relations with people. Sometimes, we meet those we may have never met in peacetime. This is not a collision, but the grouping of people for a long-term or a shorter period. We group to find the common ground in what is happening, so we find something to lean on and move forward. Accidental meetings become crucial. And the shared experience of living through the war in the bomb shelter, during an evacuation, volunteering, and co-living after relocation creates new bonds, shaping our future.
For the new exhibition in the LAZNIA Center of Contemporary Art, I suggest highlighting the accidence as a key idea of it (instead of imperatively picking the works and artists as a curator). Ukrainian artists that I have already met in Gdansk will be the first participants of the project. They fled from Ukraine as the war had begun. It is like an exercise: to look around and see people who are next to us, here and now.
The war is the only thing we talk about when we meet. Even when it seems that we say no word about it directly, we still are talking it over. The exhibition will be one more place to communicate about the war. I propose artists bring the works to the exhibition during the whole time it is working and fill up the space of the gallery gradually, when they have time, willingness, and power to react. We also invited by the open call the artists from any media that are in Poland now as well as local-based artists to join this co-exhibition.”
