Krystyna Jędrzejewska-Szmek – visual artist and biologist. A graduate of Photography at the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań, the Faculty of Media Art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and Biology at the University of Warsaw, for many years she worked in the Botanical Garden of the University of Warsaw.
Her interests focus on the interrelationships and tensions between human and ‘more-than-human-world’ – created by various beings such as: trees, toads, mosses and mushrooms. She consistently expands her art practice, balancing on the border between art and science.
A member of the ZAKOLE Group, which focuses on finding ways to describe and experience areas such as swamps and to bring closer the perspective of the creatures inhabiting them.
Co-author of the award-winning artbook "Tropicale", which addresses the issue of linking botany with colonialism. She works not only in the visual sphere, but also as the author of texts and animator of various types of social activities and workshops.
