Amanda Machnik is a recent graduate of The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York City. In 2015, she received a Fulbright grant to conduct film research in Warsaw, Poland, where she is currently based. The artist shoots on 16mm film, preferring to work with film cameras and a limited amount of footage as opposed to digital. Amanda’s work heavily relies on the relationship between text and image; she will often record her own voiceovers, which then correlate with the moving images. Most often the artist shoots to capture the nuances and subtleties of everyday life. These images in turn are then transformed when juxtaposed with a voiceover, thus asking viewers to see the work in new and evocative ways.
