DISCUSSION: Can graphic art change the world? About the poster campaign “My Freedom” // Bolesław Chromry, Patryk Hardziej, Michalina Domoń and Smutne historie spisane na kacu i tanim papierze. Moderuje Kinga Jarocka, 21 July 2019, 5.30pm, PATIO ASP, Targ Węglowy 6
There is a certain difficulty with freedom. When it is clearly restricted, all forms of struggle for freedom can be mobilised. But once received, it can be a source of confusion. For what is freedom today, in times of a wealth of choices on the one hand, and a paper-thin democracy on the other? In a reality in which one can theoretically achieve EVERYTHING and become ANYBODY? In times of strong polarization of perspectives, is it the case that only one of them by gaining the upper hand can ensure FREEDOM? Is the “great ark”, the promise of a “better world” of which Boleslaw Chromry writes on his poster, also a promise of freedom?
Six graphic and illustrative artists invoke the concept of “My Freedom” in their projects, which is the motto of the first edition of Niefestiwal Miasto i Sztuka (City and Art). Edgar Bąk, Katarzyna Bogucka, Bolesław Chromry, Patryk Hniejsza, Ola Niepsuj and Dawid Ryski are the authors of posters which will appear in June–July 2019 on advertising media and in exhibition spaces in Gdańsk.
